The Landscape is always the center of our activities. Inside the Karatassos Graden close to the school building it was the time to "play" with it! We have prodused music playing with stones, sticks of wood, leaves and everythings picked up in the park.

The class 1 D have realized a Presentation of the didactic walking, drawings and French and English descriptions about the five senses and in the end..they took on concrete form on a desk in the classroom, thanks to the pupils’ creativity.

Through the Comenius project, this year we have visited some of the prettiest places in our town.With our teachers, we went out for old and new streets in Gravina and… recently something has changed!

At the Pulicchio

Students of the class 3C describe the work made before, during and after the visit to the Pulicchio, a naturalistic area of the Alta Murgia National Park.


Before starting the guided tour teachers, involved into the project, gave students different tasks, following their interests and skills, so…some became journalist, some photographers, some botanists and other painters..

Visita all'habitat rupestre-Classe 2 A nov. 2009

Più si conosce l’ambiente, la storia, i luoghi della propria città e più la si ama.


È bello per chi ci vive entrare nei segreti nelle viuzze dove sono vissuti i nostri nonni e scoprire tutto quello che al visitatore distratto non dice nulla.

In data 09/11/09 la mia classe 2^A della scuola media “Don Eustachio Montemurro”, accompagnati dalle professoresse Buccino e Deleonardis , abbiamo fatto una escursione scolastica per conoscere e ammirare la nostra bella città Gravina.

Siamo partiti da scuola alle ore 9:00 e percorrendo Via A. De Gasperi siamo giunti in villa; poi attraversando la strada siamo giunti su Piazza A. Scacchi e l’ abbiamo percorsa. Subito dopo abbiamo girato a sinistra e sulla destra è ubicata la Chiesa di Santa Cecilia,prima dedicata a San Pietro, oggi chiusa al culto.

Poi subito dopo abbiamo girato a destra e abbiamo percorso un labirinto di stradine e di viuzze per poi trovarci su porta dell’aquila ovvero via Fontana La Stella e l’ abbiamo percorsa e infine ci siamo ritrovati sul ponte.

Non ci sarebbero parole per descriverlo scenario naturale che si presenta agli occhi,vedere nell’insieme il ponte, la Gravina,la chiesa rupestre Madonna della Stella e tutte le grotte e gli habitat rupestri è qualcosa di unico e penso che molti paesi potrebbero invidiarci.



Osservando attentamente si ammira l’ultimo baluardo delle antiche mura di cinta di Gravina che servivano per avvistare e quindi difendere il paese. Queste mura erano fatte di tufo,  di colore giallognolo costituito da abbondanti fossili e resti fossili marini cementati . Vicino al ponte abbiamo visto la fontana Madonna della Stella anticamente usata per lavare i panni e percorrendo il ponte abbiamo visto un’altra fontana chiamata “Fontana Isola del Piano” anche essa usata per scopi casalinghi.

Salendo ancora abbiamo notato che sulle rocce c’erano delle macchie colorate: i licheni. I licheni sono costituiti da un organismo autotrofo (alga) e da uno eterotrofo (fungo).

Salendo ancora abbiamo notato il campanile della chiesa Madonna della Stella e dietro di lui un panorama indescrivibile.

È sublime ascoltare in silenzio lo scorrere delle acque del torrente; quando incontra un piccolo masso ci sbatte vicino o lo saltella con un suono che nessun strumento musicale è in grado di riprodurre. Il vento che attraversando gli arbusti e gli alberi di pino che costeggiano la Gravina, fa da sottofondo a questi suoni come una piccola orchestra con un grande maestro che si chiama la natura.

Class 2 B- Inside our landscape: "La Gravina" stream

Teachers involved in the project gave us different tasks according to our skills to express at the best our experience and feelings stirred up by the sounds,colours,smells and sight of our landscape.


So an editorial staff was formed and...a great experience made:a guided tour to the river “la Gravina” to know and appreciate its geomorphological aspects,the flora and fauna of our territory.The visit took place in a sunny day when our guide, theLipu partner,brought us to the discovery our roots.

Fairy-tales ...walking in the core of the "Murgia"

Students aged 11 in Year 7 have written fairy-tales whose characters are animals, plants and landscapes seen, analysed and visited during school walking tours. Through the fairy tale literary genre students have been aware of the natural beauties and heritage of Apulia and its territory, especially of the the National Park "Alta Murgia" and of the forest "Difesa Grande". The fairy tales have been written in French
